The Ancient Monuments Society was founded in 1924 ''for the study and conservation of ancient monuments, historic buildings and fine old craftsmanship'. We are committed not only to campaigning for historic and beautiful buildings, but to furthering the study of them.

The Church Conservation Trust is a national charity protecting churches at risk.

We have saved over 340 buildings which attract 1.5million visitors a year. Our unique collection of English parish churches includes irreplaceable examples of architecture, archaeology and art from 1,000 years of history.

 

CHURCH MONUMENT SOCIETY

The Church Monuments Society was founded in 1979 and offers a focus for all who have an interest in church monuments of all types and periods. It was conceived to encourage the appreciation, study and conservation of church monuments both in the UK and abroad.

The Website of Peter Fairweather.  Known as the

Churchmouse, he passed away suddenly but peacefully in the early hours of Friday 28th July 2006.
His family wish this website to be his memorial.

 

 

CHURCH OF ENGLAND

The Church of England is organised into two provinces; each led by an archbishop (Canterbury for the Southern Province and York for the Northern). These two provinces cover England, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and even a small part of Wales.

 

 

ECCLESIOLOGICAL SOCIETY

The Ecclesiological Society is for those who are interested in and enthusiastic about churches. Anyone can join the Society who is interested in the arts, architecture or liturgy of the Christian Church. Members' interests range over all periods and places, from the earliest churches in Britain through to the most recent developments in ecclesiastical architecture, fittings and liturgy across the world.

ENGLISH HERITAGE

English Heritage is the Government's statutory adviser on the historic environment. Officially known as the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, we are an executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Our principal powers and responsibilities are set out in the National Heritage Act (1983).

 

FRIENDS OF FRIENDLESS CHURCHES

Since 1957 we have campaigned for the preservation of ancient and beautiful but redundant churches. We now own over 40 former places of worship, half in England, half in Wales, which we preserve as peaceful spaces for visitors and the local community to enjoy.

 

HISTORIC CHAPELS TRUST

The Historic Chapels Trust (HCT) was established in 1993 to take into ownership redundant chapels and other places of worship in England which are of outstanding architectural importance and historic interest. The object is to secure their preservation, repair and maintenance for public benefit, including contents, burial grounds and ancillary buildings.

 

JOHN VIGARS KENT CHURCHES

The idea for this website originated when I became frustrated at being able to find no end of exterior views of Kent churches, but few interiors where the true character of a building is often gained. I am therefore trying to use interior views wherever possible.

 

LEICESTER & RUTLAND CHURCHES

There are some spectacular churches within the beautiful two counties of Leicestershire & Rutland. This site should enable you to visit these buildings and enjoy them.

NORFOLK CHURCHES TRUST

The Norfolk Churches Trust was established in 1976 as a result of the threat of redundancy and in some cases demolition of medieval churches. A shrinking and changing rural population with spiralling building costs have made the upkeep of the fabric of these churches an impossible burden for many small congregations.

 

 

SOCIETY FOR ANTIQUITIES

The Society of Antiquaries of London is charged by its Royal Charter of 1751 with ‘the encouragement, advancement and furtherance of the study and knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other countries’. It celebrated its Tercentenary in 2007. The Society’s 2,700 Fellows include many distinguished archaeologists and art and architectural historians holding positions of responsibility across the cultural heritage.

WELFORD RD CEMETERY (Leicester)

The Welford Road Cemetery is Leicester's first municipal cemetery. It was opened in 1849 and has been in continuous use ever since. Covering around 31 acres this beautiful, historic cemetery is listed as a grade 2 site in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens. It contains the graves of over 213,000 people and has many fine monuments.
