Whatever it is we choose to focus on every day ends up being what we experience -- it’s an indisputable law that we can not get around. Nothing prevents us from worry, fear, dissapointment, past troubles, future troubles, current problems -- but ourselves.

Choose to focus on what is positive, what is empowering and what is ultimately the best that you can be and become. Make the effort to stay in that state, and life becomes as beautiful as you can possibly make it.

Also, check out the following link another inspiring 3-minute video from Tony Robbins, good stuff.

God will take you through hell, just to get you to heaven/So even tho it’s heavy, the load I will carry/Grin and still bear it, win and still share it/Apologies to the fans, I hope you can understand it/Like a change in direction, even when you ain’t planned it/All you can do it handle it, worst thing you can do is panic/Use it to your advantage, avoid insanity manage/To conquer, every obstacle, make impossible possible/Even when winning illogical, losing is still far from optional/Yeah they wanna see you shot up in the hospital/But when life throws you punches, block and counter like a boxer do. ~T.I. No Matter What, Paper Trail

What it do hustlers, I know I’ve been out for a minute – but the hustle never stops.

It’s evolving, like everything else – and streamlining in to the direction I wanted it to go from the beginning, but lost track of it in the process.

Speaking of evolving, I finally watched this episode on VH1 – I strongly encourage you to recommend it to anyone and everyone, whether they like hip hop or not.

It’s inspiring to see someone go through so much and become something out of nothing. It goes to show how the right mindset and belief in yourself can take you anywhere. Tip’s hustle was real – street real. He has transformed his hustle in to a legitimate and unstoppable business and record label – Grand Hustle. But the transformation was not without a lot of pain and regret.

As a fan, it also put so much more meaning to every track he’s put out – whether it was his best friend getting shot or the life’s lessons that he has learned. As a musician, his cadence and play with words have captivated me since the beginning. Originality, definitely not a dime a dozen.

What I dig the most is his realness about the situation, and the fact that he now firmly believes (as a result of his life experiences) and advocates anti-drugs, anti-weapons and anti-violence – despite the streets he was raised in.

I found myself thinking – man, this guy is about the same age as me, and what do I have to show for it? Inspirational. Motivational. Watch it, share it!

Top 8 Reasons T.I. is king of the south: Great post detailing his success.

Fresh off the twitter press!  Hosted right here at New Hustle, download the latest Lil Wayne mixtape (all 17 tracks in high quality – 97.7 MB) – leaked four days early from the initial Halloween release date – and available exclusively in zip format here.

Love Weezy’s mix tapes – thought I’d provide my millennial hip hop fans a clean, concise, detailed .zip file containing each track name and even the album art – done by my fellow hustler and future millennial mogul @hustleGRL (as seen above).  He’s a phenomenon, and as mainstream as he has become (I prefer Atmosphere, Common, Mos Def, Fort Minor and the likes) he knows how to get the most out of every beat he’s spitting to in a cohesive, unique style.  He knows his craft, he expects the best out of himself and every song – and you can tell. Check out the MTV News exclusive video below.

He has another studio album that was supposed to be out in September, Rebirth, that has been pushed back and won’t be released “until it’s perfect” according to a spokeswoman.

That being said, this is presumably one of Weezy’s last mixtape albums before he heads to prison. In case you haven’t heard he entered a guilty plea to felony gun possession in an NYC courthouse this morning and received a one year sentencing – but a term of eight to ten months is expected.

Had he pleaded not guilty he could have been facing three years plus – think Plaxico Burress, who accidentally shot himself and still got two years prison time – crazy! The gun charges stemmed from a July 2007 incident in which police pulled over Wayne’s tour bus after a concert. They found a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Here’s a quality review from this Rolling Stones online article:

Wayne is in full alien mode on No Ceilings, weaving together pop culture references from all over the map into his lyrics. He name checks three football players alone in his version of Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” — Deion Sanders, Tim Tebow and former Saints QB Aaron Brooks — carves similes out of 300 and Nicole Kidman and conjures up lines that only a mad scientist like Tha Carter could concoct.

Jigga’s “D.O.A.” and “Run This Town,” The-Dream’s awesome “Fancy” and even the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” get Carterized on No Ceilings. “Young Money baby, and the building grows. As we look up, where did the ceilings go,” Lil Wayne raps in “Wasted,” giving the mixtape its title. No Ceilings looks like it’s the first phase of what promises to be a prolific Weezy in the months before he’s sentenced to prison, with Rebirth reportedly due out December 15th and Tha Carter IV possibly on the horizon.

No Ceilings track list:

1. “Swag Surfin’”
2. “Ice Cream Paint Job”
3. “D.O.A.”
4. “Interlude”
5. “Wasted”
6. “Watch My Shoes”
7. “Break Up [ft. Short Dawg & Gudda Gudda]”
8. “Banned From TV”
9. “Throw It in the Bag (Remix)”
10. “I Think I Love Her [ft. Tyga & Shanell]”
11. “Interlude #2 [ft. Shanell]”
12. “Wetter”
13. “I’m Good [ft. T-Streets]”
14. “Poke Her Face [ft. Jae Millz]”
15. “Run This Town”
16. “I Gotta Feeling”
17. “Outro ”

I’ve been a Conan fan for at least a decade now. I don’t really get the time to watch his show live these days, but occasionally I’ll catch up online.

If you’re out of the loop, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, whose passionate defense of Newark City (after Conan playfully mocked that Booker’s new health care plan is “a bus ticket out of town”) has garnered national attention and over 100,000 YouTube hits since their playful feud began on September 23.

In response to Conan’s mockery, Booker fought back with a hilarious response on YouTube in which he “banned” Conan from Newark Liberty International Airport.

The YouTube duel escalated to Booker banning Conan from all of New Jersey, and Conan banning Booker from California.

Even Hillary Clinton, our nation’s top diplomat, got in the action – quelling the feud and advising both to get back to their respective purposes – for Conan, this meant dancing around the stage making fun of her “business pants”.

Now, Booker is slotted as a guest on The Tonight Show this Friday – all because he leveraged the power of social media to defend his city – even if it was in play. The Millennial Generation loves this stuff.

What’s really important here is the power of social media. Using his 826,000 followers on Twitter, Mayor Booker gets it. You don’t need to pay millions of dollars anymore for national attention. You don’t need million dollar production crews to make a video – look at the success Paranormal Activities is having in the box-office with limited advertising costs. Social media is changing the game.

Excerpt from MSN article:
“This kind of exposure is extremely rare for someone who’s not a senator, governor or presidential candidate,” said Joe Trippi, a political consultant who managed Democrat Howard Dean’s Internet-driven presidential campaign in 2004. “This shows how savvy Cory Booker is about new media and how it can be used to leverage mainstream and old media.”

This transition to viral advertising lends more power to the innovative and creative. For the sake of Newark, who has long been the butt of many New York jokes, it’s good to see a fresh face with a grasp on the limitless potential of social media.

Watch the clip and enjoy!

New Hustle is all about keeping up with the latest and greatest tech and toys – and what’s the point of hustling as hard as we do everyday without having in mind exactly what it is we would like out of life?  We decide where to put our hard earned money – and I’d put mine in the next 7 items.  Of course, money can’t buy happiness – but it can bring a lot of temporary smiles.  That being said, on to my favorite top 7 items that keep me inspired daily to keep on grinding out improvement after improvement of the self.

1.  The JJAD P1E

Excerpt taken from www.carbodydesign.com

The car will combine a design inspired by the Lancia Stratos with an electric powertrain with two electric motors – one for each axle – and lithium-ion batteries, for a total power output of 390 hp and 590lb-ft of torque.

Thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials (composite body panels on a hybrid aluminum-carbon fiber structure) the total mass is expected to be about 1,050 kg.

Estimated performance figures are a range of 200 miles, a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.  Look out for it in 2012.

2.  The Somnus-Neu Bed

Excerpt taken from design.spotcoolstuff.com
The Somnus-Neu bed includes:

    • An internet connection, either through wifi or ethernet.

    • An entire audio-visual system with an HD video projector and 5-point audio system that includes drivers mounted beneath the mattress—hook up an iPod, watch cable TV or DVDs or stream media online.

    • Mechanized curtains and a drop-down screen that can be used to completely enclose the mattress.

    • LED lighting under, above and around the bed—turn on a reading light, create your own light show or set a sensual mood.

3. sunRED Solar Powered Motorcycle

Named sunRED, this solar powered motorcycle prototype is currently being built.  The solar panels are retractable, and supposedly can charge within 2.5 hours.  The panels continue to work when the cover is down, but at a far less absorption rate.  Apparently the speed is something to be improved, but I’ll keep my eye out.

4.  Digital Newspaper Reader

Saves paper, and it’s just cool.  Automatically updates when the digital version is released and charges at the same time.  Was the winner of a bronze medal at the 2009 IDEA awards.  Amazing innovation.

5.  Light emitting wallpaper

From Dutch designer Jonas Samson, you can turn the design on and off – thus having regular wallpaper or stylish designs lit up underneath. Creates stunning ambiance within any room.

6. The Phillips Aurea

Ever since Phillips came out with their Ambilight, I was hooked. Now they’ve taken it a step up with the Aurea. Led lights emit a backdrop of the colors that are on the screen, enhancing your viewing experience. I’ll take one for each room.

7. A Green Roof

Check out this
great article about how these green roofs have the potential to offset global warming. Imagine if every business and/or house accommodated a green roof – the impact we could have on the environment would be astounding.  And, you’ll have your own personal garden to maintain instead of wasting your time on Farmville.

Wireless electricity, sounds kinda dangerous?

But it’s not.  Check out the video below, completely astonishing.  Essentially, they have created a techonology that allows electricity to be transmitted wirelessly throughout you’re home.  Say goodbye to the jungle of cords that plague most of our computer desk basements.

They use a magnetic field that is (supposedly) completely safe.   Electric cars get recharged by driving into your garage, you’ll never have to plugin a cell phone or laptop again – and best of all – it’s much more environmentally friendly.

This is just another example of where we’re headed, faster than we can even imagine.  Ingenuity and creativity are going to be the difference between stagnant business and the next best thing (such as this).

Enjoy the show.

9/11/2009: Michael Jordan inducted into the Hall of Fame

And the reality of everything hit me like a ton of bricks.  I was born a year before Mike got drafted in to the league from North Carolina as a Junior – all I have to remember of his shock-and-awe entrance are highlights, videos and his records.  Wish I could have witnessed the infamous 63 vs. the mighty Celtics that had Larry Legend admitting:

“I think he’s God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

But I did see the man in his prime.  Saw him completely change the flow of a game single handily.  Saw him compete with such a ferocity that you could almost see the fear in the eyes of his defenders – even distinctly remember him crying after winning his fourth championship the same year his father was brutally murdered.

At such a young age I couldn’t help but to be captivated by his brilliance.  Basketball became an obsession of mine, my safe haven when the rest of my world was collapsing around me.  There didn’t even have to be more than just me – a basketball – and my dreams.  Long as there was a rim and a street light (sometimes  moonlight had to do) – I was there.  What I now realize was a “healthy” coping mechanism.

The game is my wife. It demands loyalty and responsibility, and it gives me back fulfillment and peace. -MJ

There will never be another Michael Jordan
I was inspired.  Passionately.  To say he was my Hero didn’t even come close to describing the level of admiration I had.  It wasn’t the accolades or the attention he received – it was his absolute domination and mastery of the game of basketball.  He did things that will never be done again.

He is a once in a lifetime piece of work, like Ali, like Woods, like Ruth.  I predict LeBron to surpass his accolades, but never his swagger or style – he’s much more built like Magic, with a ridiculous vertical.

I learned a lot of life lessons from Mike and basketball.   The only books I rented from our library in middle school had “Jordan” in their title.

“I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don’t do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.” -MJ

Quotes like this fueled my obsession – I felt like Mike was leaving me a blueprint to follow.  By no means did this translate in to other areas of my life besides basketball – I’ve been a long, long work in progress.

The reality of the induction
I almost forgot about him.  It’s been quite a few years since my last college basketball game.  At 5′10″ (with shoes) my dreams of NBA stardom vanquished at my first tryout for the University of Hawaii squad as a walk on.

But I made the squad, was part of a WAC Championship team, and more importantly – I proved to myself that hard work, dedication and a desire to improve can help those of us without extraordinary physical gifts excel.

The reality was – as I was watching him cry – I could sense him longing for those days.  I’m sure he’s accepted his retirement by now – but you could just feel it.  Everyone in the room was wishing he could lace them up still.

Then I realized it’s been ten years since he retired – and what have I done with myself since then?

The final lesson
I’ll forever be one of his most loyal consumers – don’t even get me started about the shoe collection.  He transcended even Nike – becoming his own brand.

Why?

Because he won.  People love winners – he was a Hero in ever sense of the word to my generation.  Clutch shot after clutch shot, amazing acrobatic finishes after gravity defying dunks.

He delivered results.  He worked harder than anybody else because all he cared about was winning – nicknamed ‘the assassin’ for his insanely competitive nature – he’d even get in fights with his own teammates during practice.

“There is no ‘I’ in team, but there is in win” -Micheal Jordan in response to the Bulls GM Jerry Krause attributing the Bulls success to the ‘organization’.

Someone once said winning isn’t everything – it’s the only thing. While this isn’t the best thing to tell an 9-year old kid who’s crying because he missed the last shot to win the game – the reality of this aspect of life is what it is.

We have to win to overcome our own limitations. We have to win to conquer our fears.  We have to win to get the promotion, win to make the sale, win to become a respected member of the community.

Hard work.  A lot of hard work.  Translating this in to things we’re not passionate about is the hard part.  It comes down to the understanding that the sacrifices and effort we put in to get the most out of our days today are what will give us the life we want tomorrow.

After seeing MJ in his final farewell, I was literally sad, compassionate and relieved all at the same time.  Even the greatest of all time has to come to grips with the reality of father time.

All I could think about were the simpler times I took for granted in my youth: just me – my basketball – and the starry eyed dream of becoming just like Mike.

Megalopolis by Grant Morrison, MBX

Very happy to announce that New Hustle has returned, with a few minor tweaks to the mind and the future mission of this blog.

We’re still relevant to everything having to do with optimizing every last ounce of our sometimes dormant potential – with a little wider coverage on current events, technology, sports and anything else we might like to ramble on about.

I say “we” in reference to myself and a team of guest bloggers I’ve been setting up, and I’m confident that New Hustle is headed in the right direction.

Like everything else in life, we strive to improve, streamline and effectively provide the best content to our readers, thank you for your patience in this month and a half hiatus.

The Mission
In this rapidly, rapidly changing society it is more and more evident that life as we (knew) it the last 100 years is going to seem archaic to the next generation.

As a Millennial, I feel we’re kind of the link to the experience of the technological past – not horse and buggy – I’m talking pagers, gigantic cellphones, Atari’s, 3.5″ floppy disks, etc – and the unforeseen creative and inventive future that is ours to create.

“When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.” -Rear Admiral John M. Richardson, Jr.

The opportunity to craft our best lives correlates exactly with two things: 1. Defining what it means for you to believe you lived a successful life and 2. Putting in the work (aka hustle). Whatever it is that works for you to become better – do it. What does your future look like? Look at where you’re at today – it’s the best barometer to let you know the path you’re on – if you don’t like it, change something.

“I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.” -Frank Lloyd Wright

The Problem
Plaguing many-a-millennials (including myself) is an undeniable sense of entitlement. We’re entitled to nothing. We live in the world we live in on account of our blood lines’ hard work, perseverance and a genuine sense of survival.

We’ve seen where this sense of entitlement can lead – greed, gluttony and deprivation of what it means to be morally competent (see: global recession – and interestingly – how the recession has not affected internet traffic, it’s still growing exponentially).

The Solution
I’m convinced that there are qualities and characteristics within each of us, regardless of culture, gender, age or race, that if developed to the fullest, will lead to the most promising life possible – filled with happiness and contentment. Take it from a recent study – or this one.

The happiest people spend the least time alone. They pursue personal growth and intimacy; they judge themselves by their own yardsticks, never against what others do or have.

“Materialism is toxic for happiness,” says University of Illinois psychologist Ed Diener. Even rich materialists aren’t as happy as those who care less about getting and spending.

Twittergami - click to follow me!It’s about time Twitter came out with their own “101″ guide.  I’m still getting the hang of it – and what I’ve seen so far completely blows me away (and contributes a substantial amount of traffic to newhustle.net).

There’s still a lot of people out there that have no clue (or care to find out) what Twitter is.  The thing they’re missing is that Twitter is completely changing the social media platform – allowing individuals (such as myself) and  corporations limitless versatility to get their message out there.  Part of the new hustle is keeping up with the rapidly changing technology – and using it to your advantage.

All the tech guru’s are raving about Twitter nowadays. How it’s changing everything from advertising semantics to increasing visibility.

For me, Twitter has become an portal that has opened up so many new dimensions of creativity.  I get to meet success driven, like minded individuals that I never would have crossed paths with before – and help to make a difference by advertising good causes.  The potential (for now) seems limitless of where this will go.

So what is Twitter?  Here’s an excerpt from their new Twitter 101 guide:

“Every day, millions of people use Twitter to create, discover and share ideas with others. Now, people are turning to Twitter as an effective way to reach out to businesses, too. From local stores to big brands, and from brick-and-mortar to internet-based or service sector, people are finding great value in the connections they make with businesses on Twitter.”

Millions upon millions of people – I visualize a sea of “tweets” ebbing and flowing with the activity of the users behind them, and it blows my mind.

I’ll continue to stray from writing a post on how to successfully leverage Twitter to benefit your cause until I’ve versed myself in that field – but for now it’s great to finally get to dive into a 101 guide from the people who created the concept (instead of the thousands of other blogs about it).
