digital revolutionWatched President Obama deliver a live speech at the New Economic School in Moscow, Russia yesterday. Political jargon aside (not what this blog is about) – regardless of your like or dislike of Obama – he does feel the pulse of the up and coming generation.

Behind the laziness, selfishness and impatience that is the stigma of the younger generation entering the work force – there are many who are reaching for more, dissatisfied with the current condition – refusing to settle to be another mediocre contribution to their jobs, their families and the rest of the world.

The Digital Revolution is far underway – and even Obama noted that if we’ve come this far in the past 20 years (think 1989 technology) – imagine what it will be like in 2019? What new social mediums will be taking over the advertising market? Will Facebook or Twitter still be around? The rapidly changing environment can’t be predicted.

“Now, government can promote this cooperation, but ultimately individuals must advance this cooperation, because the greatest resource of any nation in the 21st century is you. It’s people; it’s young people especially.” –President Obama, Russia 07/2009

Like any of the past revolutions (industrial, agricultural, etc.) – The Digital Revolution is providing opportunity for the advancement of the human condition. People have voices (with a global audience, search #Iran on Twitter as just one example) that never had them before. Globally, younger generations are believing in the American “promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness”, as Obama put it in his inauguration speech.

This is what is happening. Choose to ignore it and you’re choosing ignorance.  Not talking politics – only making observations of the current events.  Agree or disagree – the progress is fact.

“There was a time when Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin could shape the world in one meeting. Those days are over. The world is more complex today. Billions of people have found their voice, and seek their own measure of prosperity and self-determination in every corner of the planet.” -President Obama, Russia 07/2009

In complaining about the condition we’re in we’re only giving strength to the negative force that is our present condition. Be pro-positivity, pro-daily improvement and stop promoting the problem.  You’ll help yourself, and most importantly – help everyone else around you by being your best.

“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.” -Mother Teresa

Leadership is contagious. Movements are contagious. Kindness is contagious. So is fear, depression and destitution. What will you spread today?
